Our Oct 2006 Pelagic was alot of fun with over 75 Black-footed Albatross sighted, some of them honking and calling while scrapping over fish right beside the boat. We saw good numbers of shearwaters with Sooty, Pink-footed, Flesh-footed and Buller's Shearwaters recorded.Good mixture of gulls with Western, Thayer's, Heerman's, California, Black-legged Kittiwakes, and a rare Slaty-backed Gull from Asia!

On our way home a group of Dall's Porpoise raced our boat and a Humpback Whale waved goodbye with his huge tail out of the water.

Our Sept 12th 2007 Pelagic tour turned out to be a nice birthday present for one of our participants, Sabina Clarke. She and the other birders had great looks at the Buller's Shearwater, many Black-footed Albatross and the Fork-tailed Storm Petrels danced on the water as they visited our boat. Other species seen included Pomarine Jaeger, Sabine's Gull, Cassin's Auklet, Northern Fulmar, Pink-footed and Sooty Shearwaters. Sabina was happy to add her namesake the Sabine's Gull to her lifelist. Her comments on the trip can be seen on our commentary section.

It cannot be overemphasized too much how weather dependent these trips are. When the ocean swells are 2 to 3 metres it is pretty rough for a long trip offshore so we don't go. Swells must be at least less than 2 metres before a tour will go. Cancellation due to weather results in a full refund of deposits.
